Yellow – sunshine or cowardice

The best way to analyse the emotions provoked by colours in the mind and psychic of humans is to analyse the components concerning the colours in the speech of the nation. First of all we should say that every nation has its own images and emotions connected with colour. Such difference between the perceptions of the same colour is caused by the difference of the culture. Every nation has its peculiar history and as so the events of the history that had formed the vision of the life and its aspects.

As for the English-speaking they have their own distinctive perception of the colours. For example there are nation that identifies yellow with joy, happiness and brightness. Examining the culture and colours' perception of the English-speaking people specialists draw the conclusion that yellow colour for these people is the colour of mostly negative aspect. That perception of the yellow is common for Russian people. Fro example F.M. Dostoevsky describing the spiritual weakness and sickness of the criminal Raskolnikov chose the yellow to reproduce inner sufferings of the character. Actually the entire novel is overfilled with the yellow colour as with the symbol of pain and sufferings.

There is a common expression "yellow flag" this is another name for "quarantine flag" – the yellow signal flag for the letter Q, flown alone from a vessel to indicate that there is no disease aboard and to request pratique or, with a second signal flag, to indicate that there is disease aboard. As you can see, that is a flag that indicates certain information concerning the disease. Another expression "to have a yellow streak" means to be coward, another negative shade of the yellow colour. The cowardice and weakness are not the only meanings of the yellow colour, yellow is also a colour of betray. Who know why it is so but thing are as they are.

Let us not forget about the disdainful name for the press that publishes blind information in order to create scandalous situation to earn an amount of money with the help of it. This press is called "the yellow press". So, as you can see yellow is a colour that symbolise different kinds of negative phenomena of our life. Still, as any other colour yellow has its shades and some of that shades makes rather positive influence on human's psychic.

The bright yellow is a perfect colour for kitchen to be painted as it changes the mood for better and may even cheer up one who is sad. Yellow is also perfect colour for small rooms as it makes them visually bigger and brighter. So, don't be afraid of the yellow, keep use it as the negative testimonial of the person in you speech but don't forget that it is also a colour that may provide you with great mood and make your home cosier.
